How it Made a Difference:
I was surprised and pleased with the receptioin I got from the students. I was able to provide encouragement and answers to many of their questions, not only on the topic of mental health, but also on my experience in the Mount Royal University nursing program. Several of the students expressed that they sometimes found it difficult to talk to their instructor about certain quetsions as they feared it would affect their evaluation; therefore they were able to be open and ask me any questions. I was able to establish supportive relationships with the students; several of them have approached me regularly for help after the FLEX project was complete. I believe that as a student, having a mentor that is passionate about their area of nursing and who has experienced the same program is extremely beneficial.
